Beyond QAPI: Hospice Quality Reporting

The next step for hospice providers in the QAPI journey will begin in 2013 with the implementation of mandatory quality reporting. Will your organization be ready? This session will review the regulatory requirements for a hospice QAPI program and discuss the upcoming requirements for hospice quality reporting as well as resources to help hospice providers prepare for mandatory quality reporting.

Key Learning Objectives:

  • Participants will understand the regulatory relationship between QAPI and quality reporting
  • Participants will learn about the CMS pending quality measures and reporting timetable for the hospice industry
  • Participants will be able to identify/ locate resources available for support for QAPI and quality reporting

Audits, Audits Everywhere! Who's Watching Hospice?

The hospice industry is facing increasing scrutiny, highlighting the importance of compliance. Is your organization prepared? This session will educate hospice professionals regarding the contractors watching hospice and will outline specific vulnerabilities hospice providers should be cautious about.

Key Learning Objectives:

  • Identify and discuss the various audits that a hospice provider could receive and identify the contractors performing the audits
  • Outline strategies for preparing a baseline audit response process and avoiding an audit
  • List resources available to support identification and management of a hospice audit

Documenting Hospice Care

Documentation of services provision and patient care is more critical than ever! Providers continue to struggle with documenting assessments, plan of care updates, and continued hospice eligibility. Learn tips for assessing eligibility, managing the process of assessment and care planning, and demonstrating ongoing eligibility. Hear the latest in what FIs/MACs are looking for when they conduct medical review and learn about resources for your staff.

Key Learnig Objectives:

· Identify and discuss assessment and documentation of hospice eligibility throughout the hospice service period

· Discuss documentation strategies for IDG members

· List resources available to support comprehensive hospice documentation

Presenter: Jennifer Kennedy, Regulatory & Compliance Director, NHPCO

Jennifer Kennedy is the Regulatory and Compliance Director for the National Hospice & Palliative Care Organization. She has over 25 years of experience as a leader and nurse in diverse healthcare settings in numerous areas of the United States, including Hawaii, and has worked in hospice care for the last 15 years. The majority of her health care career has been dedicated to education, compliance, quality assurance, performance improvement, and program development.

She has served at the Director level for several prominent national and regional healthcare organizations in operations, clinical care, education, quality, and compliance. She has a Bachelor’s degree in Nursing from DeSales University, and graduated with honors with a dual Master’s of Arts degree in Health Promotion and Case Management from Trinity University in Washington, DC. Jennifer has presented at educational conferences on the national and state level, writes articles for trade association journals, and develops educational tools, resources, and products for NHPCO.
